Urgent Appeal: Support Free Abortion Care and Therapy for Ukrainians

Our Ukraininan partners Martynka provide urgent care to those affected by war, rape and violence. And they need us to step up together and come for support today.

The ongoing struggle to secure funding for Ukrainian survivors has forced Martynka to pause their psychological consultations services over the summer. Last week, Russia bombarded a childrens hospital in Ukraine. Martynka received requests for psychological help on the hotline all day. They have everything in place, but are missing the funds to continue this much needed service.

Nastya, Martynka's founder shares this message with you, that speaks for the heartbreak and frustration she experiences in her work:

“Like millions of kids from Kyiv and Ukraine, I was treated at Okhmatdyt Hospital as a child. Now, it’s partly in ruins. Ukraine is not our priority for funding anymore,” Martynka reads in emails. Our funding is shrinking. I’m tired of this bullshit. Begging for funding for Ukrainians is ridiculous. People see me as the “angry Ukrainian.” So inconvenient. Well, perhaps I am one. Guess what — supporting refugee rape victims is inconvenient for Martynka too. Saving children with cancer from a bombarded hospital is uncomfortable too. Asking for funding while seeing pictures of your childhood demolished is hard. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Martynka is a female-led Ukrainian grassroots organization based in Poland, that provides crucial assistance to Ukrainian evacuees, including access to abortion, emergency contraception, safe accommodation, and comprehensive informational, legal, and psychological support for issues such as human trafficking and sexual violence.
